Bone Grafting
Bone grafting allows us to place implants where there would otherwise be inadequate bone even for a small or short implant. It may regenerate anatomical contour to provide better appearance & emergence of a tooth from the gums, or allow better angulation or a larger implant to be placed to take the anticipated load of a large tooth like a molar.
These examples demonstrate these concepts and various methods of grafting.

Block Grafting
A small section ( block ) of bone is taken from another part of the body and placed in the deficient area to improve the bone contour at the graft site.

Particulate overlay ridge graft
Particles of bone mineral matrix derived from cows and / or human donors and placed with a covering membrane to encourage native bone to grow into it. Done either prior to implant placement or where the deficiency is not too great, at the same time as implant placement.

Sinus lift graft
Upper jaws towards the back of the mouth often have sinus involvement, reducing the available bone for implants. This can be remedied with a sinus lift graft.
Type 1: Lateral Window, for severe deficiency.
Type 2: Transalveolar for less severe deficiency.
Examples below.
Lateral window sinus graft

Transalveolar sinus graft
